Art Gallery in Bournemouth Gardens Bournemouth Dorset England

Whilst at Bournemouth College of Art studying architecture I designed a mobile art gallery which featured and interior patio so that visitors walked around the exhibition. The module was based on the Traditional Japanese Floor Mats probably inspired by the six months that I spent in Japan whilst serving with the Royal Signals in Japan and Korea.

Tatami mats (畳) are woven straw mat used in traditional and modern Japanese homes. Tatami are made in individual mats of uniform size and shape, bordered by plain black cloth (#1) or Gold & Black Plum Pattern (#12). In the Japanese home, tatami mats are used as a surface for sitting, sleeping and walking.
